In case you haven't heard, our dear friend Dial Bowen is in the hospital again. Several of us went to his home on the Friday before we left town to fix up his back yard and deck so he would have a peaceful retreat to relax and visit with friends. Thanks to Susan Hinson, David Norris, Jami Francis, Dick Shaw, Susan Hirsh for the hard work and/or contributions.

We plan on returning in a couple of weeks to clean out the water garden and plant flowers. If you'd like to join us and/or contribute planting material please contact me at Trisha@M-Friends.org.

Happy July everyone!

You're receiving this newsletter late because I've been in Birmingham since the end of June for the Birmingham AG. You may have heard rumor that the AG had been taken over by AML and that is true but in typical Mensa fashion, members rallied around the Birmingham group and an alternative hospitality suite was created at the Porter house. While those at the hotel feasted on prepackaged snack foods and tried to grab some "hotel food" during a small window of time, the hospitality suite at the Porter home had home-baked goodies, grilled meats and about 20 different varieties of soup available at all times.

Some of us did make it over to the hotel occasionally; several times to run a shuttle service for those who wanted to come to the alternate hospitality and once to attend the AMC meeting. Nick Sanford, our new RVC, also asked Jami to attend an LDW Workshop on his behalf so Jami made an appearance at the hotel for that but mostly we all hung out in the alternate hospitality. I think just about everyone at the AG made it to the alternate hospitality at one time or another, including Russ Bakke (AML Chairman), Pam Donahoo (Executive Director) and a large majority of the other AMC members.

We've been busy here in Memphis too, moving forward with plans for the upcoming After AG Memphis Un-Gathering. We've got several speakers lined up already and will have many more before the actual event. Nick Sanford, the new RVC for our region is going to hold a rap session with members so be sure to attend that and learn what Nick has planned and let him know your thoughts. He's a great guy and wants to hear from the members. We've got all night movies planned for Friday and Saturday night (would love suggestions on what to show), a dance on Saturday night, and a weekend long book sale with the proceeds being donated to the Memphis Literacy Council. Oh, and don't forget the 24-hour game room and hospitality suites, chocked full of scrumptious food and beverages and an on-going supply of stimulating conversation from other Mensan's around the country.

You can register on-line for the UG at http://ungathering.m-friends.org/. Or if you prefer, you can download the registration form and mal your registration to the registrar. Just be sure to register. Memphis used to have wonderful RG's, but that was many moons ago. Let's get this going again!!!

Several months ago, M-Friends started sending birthday postcards to members who have a birthday during that month. You can redeem the postcard at any M-Friends dinner for a free dessert -- and you don't even have to wear a goofy party hat or hear the wait-staff sing some variation of Happy Birthday! If you've recently had a birthday and did not receive a postcard, it's because we don't have your birthday on file. You can go to the national Mensa website and change your preferences there to include the release of your birthday to the group or you can send an e-mail with your name and birthday to me at Trisha@M-Friends.org

Last month, we had several great events and when we weren't so busy having fun that we forgot, we actually took pictures. You can check out past events on the M-Friends website at http://M-Friends.org

I hope to see you at an event soon. You can never have too many M-Friends!
