New Year – New Events

Starting in January, M-Friends is going to have a theme for each month and at least one event relating to that theme. In searching the internet for ideas for January, I found that January is (to name a few) Clown month, Hobby month, Oatmeal month, Prune Breakfast month and Book Blitz month. Since I didn't think I'd get many takers to dress up like a clown and cannot imagine “eggs n’prunes”, we're going with Book Blitz. Seems appropriate. In addition to the various “whatever” month declared, I also found that the 3rd week of January is Cuckoo Dancing week celebrating Laurel and Hardy movies and many strange daily anniversaries, etc. that could create some interesting events. (I swear, I did NOT make any of these up.) Just proves every day is a reason to celebrate something, especially with friends.

12th – Feast of Fabulous Wild Men Day (I wasn’t sure if the fabulous wild men feasted or if we feasted on them, but it sounded interesting.)
15th – First Superbowl game held in 1967 (Green Bay Packers defeated Kansas City Chiefs.)
17th – Prohibition Remembrance Day – Prohibition became official in America in 1920 at 12:01 AM.
21st – National Hugging Day
24th – Beer in cans first became available on this day in 1935
25th – Elvis Presley’s First No. 1 hit released, “Heartbreak Hotel,” 1956
27th – Thomas Crapper Day) Anniversary of the death of Thomas Crapper who invented the flush toilet. I have no idea what kind of event you could plan around this, but whatever it is it would be interesting.
29th – Puzzle Day

We may have some events not listed in the newsletter come up for January, so check our website: http://M-Friends.org for events added after the newsletter cut-off, or send me an e-mail at Trisha@M-Friends.org to be added to the Event Notification e-mails sent out all month long.

I hope some of you will find something interesting you’d like to turn into an M-Friends event. If you do, just send me the details and ‘ll get it out to the group. If you can’t do something in January, try for February. The February theme will be “All Things Chocolate” and we’ll be having a chocolate orgy to celebrate, but there are many other interesting dates to consider as well. February is National Bird Feeding Month, Creative Romance Month, Friendship Month and Condom Month (hmmm could do a variation on the helium balloon event we used to have at RG’s. Use condoms instead of balloons… NAH! Guess that wouldn’t fly with some people).

The 2nd week of February is Celebration of Love Week and Flirting Week. The 3rd week is Random Acts of Kindness Week.

Other possible reasons to celebrate:
2nd – Groundhog Day & Bonza Bottler Day
3rd – Super Bowl Sunday
5th – Mardi Gras Day
11th – Clean out your Computer Day
14th – Valentine’s Day
17th – Blondie & Dagwood got married on February 17, 1933
20th – Hoodie Hoo Day. This holiday is celebrated in an interesting way. At high noon everyone yells “Hoodie-Hoo” to chase away winter and make way for spring.
27th – Polar Bear Day

Allecia Powell and Susan Hinson have both already volunteered to host events in the upcoming months and I'll be hosting the Chocolate Orgy and Margarita Monday Party; we hope you'll find something you'd like to host too. So pick a reason (or just make one up) and have an event; come to an event andbe sure to  jump up and shout “Hoodie Hoo” on February 20th.

I hope everyone has a very happy and prosperous 2008 and I hope I have the opportunity to see all of you at least once (hopefully more) during 2008.
